With the 2008 Prius, Toyota adds a new lower price tag standard model but is pretty much the same. Like previous models this one is a gas-electric hybrid and a 5 passenger, four door hatchback. Base, standard and sport-themed Touring trim levels are offered on the various versions of this car. Prius Standards cost about $1400 less than the Prius Base.

It pairs a 4 cylinder engine with a electric motor battery powered providing 110 hp. Using the same hybrid system Toyota uses in it’s other cars, it automatically runs on one or both of its power sources to provide maximum fuel efficiency and acceleration. The electric power source is automatically charged as the vehicle is operated, there is no plugging in required.

The Toyota Prius has a CVT (a Continuously Variable Automatic Transmission. Various available safety features are traction control, Anti-Lock Breaking System, antiskid system, front side and curtain side airbags. The highest end model, Touring have a very cool xenon headlights, sport suspension and fog lights. Standards exclude features like heated power mirrors and cruise control.
